Large Cranes Mean More Cargo & Jobs At Port Of Baltimore

BALTIMORE?(WJZ)?Up and running. Four immense cranes are now handling cargo at the Port of Baltimore.

Alex DeMetrick reports.

Built in China, they were shipped up the bay last summer.

It took until now to assemble them and train longshoremen to operate them.

?The cranes will be able to accommodate the largest ships in the world,? said Maryland Port Administration spokesman Richard Scher.

At 40 stories tall and a cost of $10 million each, the super cranes mean more cargo coming in and more jobs, according to Scher.

WJZ-TV will bring you more on this story at 5 &6 p.m.
