SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) ? New Mexico?s celebrates its 100th birthday Friday with a host of events that kick off a yearlong Centennial party.
An official birthday party will be held from 11 to 1 in the Roundhouse, to be followed by Centennial Ball Friday night at the Santa Fe Convention Center.
Communities around the state are also hosting a variety of activities, from a reenactment of the signing of the proclamation of statehood in Las Cruces to a special one-day only walk across the dam at Elephant Butte Reservoir.
In Albuquerque The KiMo Theatre launches a year-long New Mexico Statehood Centennial Film Series with a showing of the 1960s movie Easy Rider, which starred Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson and Peter Fonda. Part of the movie was filmed in New Mexico. The series will feature films that celebrate New Mexico?s history, culture and landscape.
